Derivat #01 is a festival of good music and gathering.
The summer night of June 19th, 2019, will tremble with sonic blows delivered by two of the best live acts of the region: Repetitor and Let3, who will - exclusively for this occasion - base their performance on their first two records solely.
If Žižek versus Peterson was the intellectual debate of the century, this is nothing short of musical dialogue of the decade.
Two exceptionally well-tuned and uncompromising bands who manage to coalesce the stage and the audience into a single vibrant mass.
In order to present the performers who move the boundaries and captivate with their musical solutions or incredibly well played concerts, our rich line-up – along with the headliners – consists of Šumovi protiv valova, dRBonito, D. Klemenza and The Siids. In addition, the path towards the morning hours will be coloured by the dance rhythms of the 2nd stage, delivered by the DJs El Commando, Mr.D and Lutor. The all day long gathering in the atmosphere of an extended living room, followed by gastronomy and the exchange of various goods, comes in the organization of the informal initiative Banak at Derivat, a variant of all the more popular Banak at riva, musically shaped by Tomislav Brlek.
The program takes place on the turf behind the Zadar City Library, situated inside the dilapidated space of the former military barracks, thereby aiming at its reintegration into the city’s public life.
LET 3 playing the first two
Regional rock giants who for the past 30 years continue to fascinate and shock with their well-thought stage performances, at the same time arousing countless reactions with their amazing theatrical burlesque provocations.
However, their true strength has always laid in top-notch performances of a mighty musical machine which functions perfectly on stage with nothing but their songs and feathers. Stripped of any sort of theatrical scenic provocations, they become the essence of the basic rock’n’roll music in its purest form.
Thus, their performance at Derivat festival will present a quest of the band and its friends for that musical essence; playing exclusively the songs off of their first two records, the band will incorporate a concept of performing not only for audience as such, but for that audience which after years of mutual respect the band proudly calls their friends.
REPETITOR
Many will say – the best live act of the wider region
Their live shows are a complete devotion of the band to the audience, which returns by completely committing itself to the rhythm of the performance.
The amount of energy they deliver and of sweat they lose during their shows is enormous, and precisely this devotion has ensured them the reputation of a great live act which has thus far not only toured with the mighty Arcade Fire, but has also played all the important festivals such as Sziget, Exit, Eurosonic, Pohoda, Europavox, Rock For People, Loftas, Stereoleto, INmusic, Waves Vienna, Botanique, TAM TAM, etc.
ŠUMOVI PROTIV VALOVA
For the past 8 years, Šumovi protiv valova have been intriguing the audience with their surreal, psychedelic tunes.
Gaining both public and critical acclaim, the band has managed to sell-out their record promoting concert played at the beginning of the year, arousing an ecstatic-like reaction from the audience.
Their shows are rare and unique, so make sure not to miss them at Derivat festival…as the day slowly turns into the night, enjoy their music in the pleasant atmosphere of the festival park… what a unique opportunity!
THE SIIDS
Although the Rijeka-based indie/electro pop duo is a relatively new name on the scene, the musicians behind it – Darko Terlević and Stanislav Grdaković – have a perennial experience of engagement in various bands.
The basis and foundation of their sound is electronic tightness combined with the energy of rock’n’roll music, simultaneously coated in a mildly dark atmosphere and pop arrangements pointing in the direction of the bands which have inspired them - The Editors, The Kills, Twin Shadow, The Presets, M83, Depeche Mode, etc.
dRBonito
The band has been existing in the same line-up since the autumn of 2014.
They have been actively creating music in various spheres for a long period of time, presenting their work in the combination of guitar, bass and drums; a minimalism which alternately produces heavy individual parts, eventually merging into a compact sonic explosion.
D. KLEMENZA
A completely new name, promoted by Derivat to the satisfaction of both the author and the audience!
D. Klemenza, alias Damir Klemenić is a one-man-movement, performer, actor and a musician of striking and out-of-the-box characteristics of powerful energy, who has been living and breathing the scene for the last 20 years. His artistic engagement was primarily channelled through acting, ranging from the first line-up of the independent alternative theatre Montažstroj to the “Cowboys” play of theatre EXIT.
Exclusively for this occasion, Damir is for the first time coming out as a musician who will perform a solo set.
RESIDENT D.J. TOMISLAV BRLEK
The musical content of Banak on Derivat, as well as the entire program of the main stage – both in the intermissions between the performances and after the closing performance of Repetitor – is shaped by our resident DJ Tomislav Brlek; university professor, editor, critic and – above all – a dear friend who has on countless occasions managed to surprise us with his fantastic and witty choice of musical treats.
2nd floor / EL COMMANDO / MR.D / LUTOR
El Commando is one of the commanders of the army which defends the city of Split’s Mecca of underground scene – the club Kocka. His answer to the call of his DJ mixer dates back to 2010, whereas the present finds him as the resident DJ of the aforementioned club.
Throughout the years of developing his DJ career, El Commando was a real “genre’s man” who flirted with various genres: “I started as a drum’n’bass DJ. It was a love at first sight; I was seduced by the sound and the variations and emotions of that music”. First love, however, often does not prove to be THE one, and El Commando eventually realized that this is not the sound he wishes to proceed with, for better or worse.
“After couple of years I got fed up with that sound, as many producers have taken the direction that I’ve never appreciated when it came to drum’n’bass. Afterwards I started looking for that sound in techno, house, electro and bass music. I want to be a kind of DJ for whom the audience never really knows what he’s going to deliver to the dancefloor”, he explains.

Mr. D is a Šibenik-residing enthusiast whose selections are not strictly genre-restricted; ranging from industrial to disco, but mostly flirting with acid, techno and electro tracks.

Lutor is a dude who functions on the relation between Zadar and Mostar; in charge of warm-up and close-down of the 2nd stage, he will be delivering an electro set.
BANAK AT DERIVAT
Banak is the place of meeting, laughter and chitchat. In the atmosphere of an extended outdoor living room and in the shape that resembles a fair or a flea market, Banak encourages the barter principles – take what you need and leave what you don’t.
It represents a place of gathering and the exchange of goods, followed by gastronomy, craft beers, fanzines and promo booths of organizations which function on the Croatian independent scene, such as Slušaj najglasnije, Pozitivan ritam and Vlajternativa.
Banak starts at 6pm, with free entrance until 8pm.
After 8pm, the visitors of Banak will be able to buy the festival ticket, in order to support the program. People without tickets will not be allowed to remain inside the festival premises.
In addition, Banak will also offer workshops for children, who will not be required to purchase the festival ticket.
